A Breast Cancer Survivor Story

Inspire yourself to get better with breast cancer survivor stories from our foundation. The Power of PINK Breast Cancer Foundation is proud to present the story of Kathy Dibben, a two-time breast cancer survivor! Kathy’s story is sure to inspire you in your fight against breast cancer.

I lost my mother to breast cancer when she was 51 and my cousin, Ann, to breast cancer when she was 48. I was diagnosed the first time in 1990 at the age of 37, seven years after my mother passed away. It was a frightening time for my family and a time of fear mixed with strength for me. Eleanor Roosevelt once said a woman is like a tea bag, she never knows how strong she is until she is put in hot water’. In 1990, I had a lumpectomy, six months of chemotherapy, and 37 radiation treatments.

Twelve years later, I had a second cancer, not a reoccurrence. The second time I had ductal and lobular breast cancer in the opposite breast. This time I had a bilateral mastectomy with no reconstruction. I soon discovered the difficulty and frustration of finding mastectomy products. For years, I kept saying ‘this should not be this difficult. I know I am not the only woman going through this’. Five years after my mastectomies, I opened a special shop, Absolute Dignity™, to help other women through their breast cancer journey. Please know that you are not alone. There are many survivors out there pulling for you! Never give up hope. When the world says, ‘give up,’ hope whispers, ‘give it one more try.’

Kerry Bishop tells her story about the inspiration that helped her through her battle.

Her latest show of bravery and courage
was getting into a race car!

A two-year survivor, Anna Mae Mlinar from Janesville, Wisconsin tells us how scared she was when she found out she had breast cancer.  According to Anna, having breast cancer was so scary, she says that there is nothing that will scare her now.  How does she prove her newly found courage and bravery? At age 73, Anna Mae went skydiving.  At age 74, she jumped out of another airplane.  We had the pleasure of meeting her family who says that they are very proud of her.  The Power of PINK representatives, Elizabeth Thompson and Ilene Jones, are also very proud just to have met her.
