Kindness Leaves NO SCARS!
Breast Cancer Awareness from Our Founder
Trust in The Power of PINK Breast Cancer Foundation to make your journey through breast cancer easier and more bearable. Our founder, Ilene Jones, founded this breast cancer foundation to spread awareness and help other breast cancer patients and survivors like she did for her twin sister, Irene, and her friends in Joplin, Missouri. I started attending functions with her and got to know other breast cancer survivors in the Joplin area. Watching Irene be an inspiration to others helped me tremendously. I planned my first big event, The “2008 POWER of PINK Fashion Show,” which is an annual event put on by the hospital that was cancelled this year due to lack of manpower and funds. We had 10 survivors as models and a total of 80 people in attendance. It wasn’t so much the show that told me this was my calling, it was something that happened to me before the show began.
I found myself alone a couple of hours before the start of the show when a stranger approached me. This man was not looking well. Personally, I thought he was looking for the ER. When I offered to help him, he said that he was too late. As it turned out, he drove nonstop from Arizona when he found out his mother was dying of cancer. She died an hour before he got to the hospital. He told me that he knew she was sick but just never realized how sick. He said, “If I had only known, I would have done things differently. I would have been here sooner. Now, I have no way of telling her that I love her. I didn’t even get the chance to tell her good-bye.” I decided right then and there that my goal was to spread breast cancer awareness. I do not want others to be “too late” because they didn’t know.
